Celebrate March is National Nutrition Month with America’s Favorite Vegetable — Potatoes
This month, we celebrate National Nutrition Month and it’s the perfect time to spotlight the nutritional and economic benefits of America’s favorite vegetable — potatoes.
Potatoes are a nutrient powerhouse
Potatoes are gluten free, fat free, rich in Vitamin C, and loaded with potassium. With all of these nutritional and health benefits, potatoes make for the perfect performance-boosting fuel for our body. Potatoes provide the energy, potassium, and complex carbohydrates needed to perform at your best.
Not only are potatoes packed full of natural goodness that nurtures our body but they taste delicious and are a budget-friendly buy in the produce aisle. This highly versatile vegetable has a longer shelf life than other fresh produce items. It’s best to store potatoes in a cool, dark, dry pantry or basement to help get the best potato eating experience and shelf life. Potatoes continue go-to be a staple for home cooks to make delicious and nutritious meals for their family at an excellent value.
Potatoes remain an excellent value to stretch a food budget and are a nutritional staple as part of a healthy lifestyle for just pennies per pound. For tips to shopping healthy on a budget, visit: sm.eatright.org/shopbudget.
